Along with his ecumenical heritage (African-American, Thai and Chinese with strains of Caucasian and American Indian), [Tiger] Woods brought a gift for drama and a prodigious talent. ~Chip Brown, “It’s Good to Be Immortal,” nytimes.com, 6/1/08
This sportswriter got it right: “ecumenical” is not a religious word per se. It has an Earth-centered meaning, from the Greek, to care for the big house and all its inhabitants. ~jpc
Plenty of room to grow ecumenically. Namaste.

In the ICA history regarding this take on the word Ecumenical, did the Ecumenical Institute see earth conscious awareness as part of its underlying philosophy, back in the 60's? If so, WOW! TW
JPC response: We talked about ecumenical as the whole earth, the definition in the reflection. We were reading Teilard de Chardin back then, e.g., BUILDING THE EARTH. But of course the emphasis was still more on the human, a la human development, but that for the care of the globe (not the total earth community, per se). So, yes and no.
