Those who hear the word of grace as a word addressed to them know the meaning of the cross. For just as Jesus invested everything, including . . . his life, in the certainty of that word of grace, so they who hear the word will know what it requires of them. We thrill at hearing that part of the grace word that we are absolutely accepted, but we’re not so thrilled with the part about living sacrificially on behalf of our earth community. ~jpc
