2008 [Presidential election] will represent a hinge moment . . . because this will be the first cycle when a whole new range of issues . . . will be front and center: Iraq, the war on terror, global warming, energy, technology and globalization. ~quote of Chris Lehane in “Shushing the Baby Boomers,” John M. Broder, nytimes.com, 1/21/07
We need leaders who can galvanize our fractured nation and whose style of leadership will demonstrate we will serve the globe. Candidates for President should have the leadership style, the deep appreciation of diversity, and the global experience of the likes of a _____________. Who heads your list at the moment and why? ~jpc
Let us start praying for/working to elect leaders our nation and our globe need and will follow. Namaste.

For now, Barack Obama. From what I can tell from having read his book (which I highly recommend) and seeing him in the media, he embodies diversity in many different facits, places cooperation and community over partisanship, and is willing to listen to and learn from viewpoints which challenge his own strong convictions. rcw
Candidates for President should have the leadership style, the deep appreciation of diversity, and the global experience of the likes of a George Marshall, Ronald Reagan, or Abraham Lincoln.
Of all the announced candidates, only John McCain comes close to this in my book. He has been consistent in his positions throughout, and has repeatedly demonstrated his ability to work with differing views.
Intellectually, Newt Gingrich is my favorite, but aside from his intellect, his experience, and his true (as opposed to 'politically correct' and expedient) appreciation of diversity, I don't not believe he has the ability to pull us together. Unfortunately, logic and reason is not the compelling driver for the American Body Politique. Emotion is too large a factor.
Who?
Dr. Ron Paul not only heads my list of candidates for President in 2008, but he is the only one on it. I think it was Shakespeare who said there is no choice among rotten apples and our government certainly has a lot of rotten apples.
Rep. Paul is nicknamed “Dr. No” in Congress because he doesn’t vote for bills that he considers unconstitutional. He is running as a Republican and is ignored by both the party and the press. He has acknowledged he has no chance of being elected, but thinks his candidacy will bring to light issues that aren’t being discussed and will force other candidates and the media to address them. If you are interested in his position on issues see his weekly column site below.
Why?
I think Ron Paul is a man of truth and integrity whose energy is focused on saving the American Constitution and our civil rights. In my view his stand on serving our country and the globe is to stop destroying it with our wars and policies.
His website is below:

In Texas Straight Talk, his weekly column, I find I get a huge amount of information and insight that I trust and that isn’t covered in the main stream media. The index list his weekly articles going back to January 1997.
Another site I read for news each day is World Affairs Brief:

I do enjoy and find your daily emails interesting although sometimes a little unsettling. I think I would hugely enjoy sitting and discussing what are possibly our differing views.
I say ‘possibly’ because sometimes I can’t quite pin down your point. Perhaps this is intentional to get the mind working. The references you quote are a constant source very different from my usual reading list. I thank you for them.
Take care.
