The Unexpected Universe

[O]ut of such desolation emerges the awesome freedom to choose – to choose beyond the narrowly circumscribed circle that delimits the animal being. In that widening ring of human choice . . .

~Loren Eiseley from The Unexpected Universe

The unexpected universe is surely encountering us lately through natural disasters, warring, and terrorism, not to mention personal and close-at-home crises. Out of such desolation emerges awesome freedom, not only for those at the center of the crises, but for all of us who know about them. We can hunker down and delimit our relations, or we can widen the ring of our care. I believe the wind of spirit, accentuating our human freedom, is blowing us together these days in strange ways – that is, if we choose to respond. ~jpc
